Life on the Edge: Otago Harbour communities

25 September 2015 – 28 February 2016

The Otago Harbour is the lifeblood of Dunedin city. It is both a place to work and a place to play. Dotted along its margins are communities of people to whom the harbour is ‘Home’.

This exhibition takes a closer look at the development of the harbour communities between West Harbour and Aramoana in the west and between North East Harbour and Pukekura in the east.

Drawing together around 500 historic and contemporary images and around 100 artefacts, ranging from a seven-tonne gun barrel to a potato masher and from a stuffed sea lion to a pickle jar, the exhibition reflects generations of activity on and around the harbour.

Life on the Edge: Otago Harbour communities is in the Temporary Exhibitions Gallery. Admission is free. The exhibition is open during normal museum hours.
